Most kitchens take four to six hours, and finished basements take one to two days. Unfinished basements with exposed joists often wrap in a single day. We schedule kitchen jobs within one to two weeks of your quote, and soffit work runs April through October when weather allows sealed access. Do potlights need an ESA permit in Ontario? Yes, new potlight wiring is electrical work covered by the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, so it needs ESA notification. We're an ESA-registered contractor and file the notification for you. Every installer holds a 309A licence or works as an apprentice under a licensed journeyperson, so your home insurance stays protected. Which colour temperature should I pick for each room? Pick 2700K to 3000K warm white for bedrooms and living rooms, and 3500K to 4000K for kitchens and home offices where you need sharp task light. Basements usually do well at 3000K. If you can't decide, 5CCT selectable fixtures let us switch the temperature at install, and tunable-white smart fixtures shift from 2200K to 6500K. Will you leave holes in my ceiling? No. Drywall patching on every removed fixture is included in your quote. When old halogen or fluorescent cavities don't match the new potlight size, we patch the opening before we leave. Paint touch-up and texture matching have limits on older stucco, and we'll explain those during your free consultation so there aren't surprises. Is there a warranty on the installation? Yes. Every job comes with a written workmanship warranty covering our labour, and the fixtures carry their own manufacturer warranties. Can you install potlights in a Toronto condo with a concrete ceiling? Often, yes, but not by cutting into the slab. What does IC-rated mean, and do I need it? IC-rated means the fixture can sit in direct contact with insulation without overheating. You need it anywhere insulation touches the ceiling, like top-floor rooms under an attic and exterior soffits. We use IC-rated, air-tight fixtures by default, so heat and drafts don't escape through your ceiling in a Toronto winter. Can you cut potlights into old plaster or stucco ceilings? Yes. Century plaster in Rosedale, High Park and Leslieville homes needs slower cutting with dust-controlled hole saws, and we patch any cracks around the openings.
