What Types of Bedroom Lighting Do We Install?
Bedroom lighting is about comfort first. Here’s how we set up most rooms when we handle potlight installation across Toronto and the GTA.
General warm-white potlights
Three to five slim LED potlights at 2700K or 3000K, spaced around the edges of the room. They light the floor and closet doors without shining at the bed.
Headboard reading lights
Two small adjustable fixtures aimed at each side of the bed on their own switch. Great for couples on different sleep schedules.
Baffle trims for low glare
A baffle trim has a ribbed, dark interior that hides the light source. When you’re lying down and look up, you see a soft glow instead of a bright dot.
Walk-in closet fixtures
Enclosed LED fixtures over the walkway with proper clearance from shelving. They make it easy to find the navy jacket versus the black one on a dark January morning.
How Much Do Bedroom Potlights Cost in Toronto?
Bedroom jobs run $350 to $650. Here’s what makes the difference.
| Cost factor | Lower end | Higher end |
|---|---|---|
| Room size | Small kids or guest room | Master with sitting area |
| Fixture count | 3 lights | 5 lights plus reading lights |
| Closet | None | Walk-in closet lighting |
| Access | Attic above | Finished floor above |
| Ceiling | Drywall | Plaster or textured stucco |
Everything’s included: fixtures, dimmer, patching, cleanup and a written workmanship warranty.
When Should You Add Bedroom Potlights?
Many clients add bedroom lights while we’re already doing a kitchen or main floor, since attic access is open and the crew’s on site. Others call after a nursery or home office conversion, when one ceiling light isn’t enough anymore. Winter is a popular time too. Toronto’s dark mornings and early evenings make a gloomy bedroom feel worse, and interior work isn’t affected by the weather.
Common Bedroom Lighting Problems We Fix
Humming at low dim levels
A mismatched dimmer. We swap it for a silent Lutron or ELV unit.
Bright light right over the pillow
Poor placement. We move lights toward the edges and add baffle trims.
Harsh, cool light at bedtime
Cheap 5000K fixtures. We replace them with 2700K warm white.
Dark closets
No closet lighting at all. We add enclosed fixtures with proper clearance.
Bedroom Potlights vs. Lamps
Bedside lamps are nice for reading but they don’t light the room, and they take up nightstand space. A single ceiling fixture lights the middle of the bed and not much else. Potlights on a silent dimmer give you even, warm light that you can turn down to a glow, with reading lights for the headboard. It’s a simple upgrade that makes the room calmer every night.
