What Changes the Price?

Your fixed quote is built from these factors. We'll walk through each one during the consultation so nothing's a surprise.

Ceiling height and type

Flat 8-foot drywall is the baseline. Cathedral, two-storey, plaster and condo concrete ceilings take more time and are priced after we see them.

Access above the ceiling

An open attic or open basement joists make wiring quick. A finished floor above means fishing cable through joist bays, which adds time.

Old fixtures to remove

Retrofits run 15 to 30 percent above new installs because old halogen and fluorescent fixtures come out and oversized holes get patched.

Dimmer zones and circuits

One dimmer is standard. Extra zones, 3-way switching, smart dimmers or a new circuit from the panel are itemized on your quote.

Fixture choice

Slim canless LEDs are standard. Gimbals, small-aperture coffer fixtures, wet-rated shower trims and tunable-white fixtures cost more.

Season and scheduling

Soffit and landscape work runs April to October. Pricing is the same all year, but spring exterior slots book up early.

A few price notes worth knowing: our basement service range is $1,400 to $2,000 for a 25-light retrofit, while the table package for 20 to 30 lights starts at $1,800. Soffit installs typically run $950 to $1,550, and the table's full 12-light package starts at $1,550. Basic chandelier swaps run $200 to $350, and the table's basic install starts at $250. Your written quote will tell you exactly where your job lands.

How much does potlight installation cost in Toronto?

A standard six-light kitchen starts at $550 all-in, and a 20 to 30 light basement retrofit starts at $1,800. That price includes LED fixtures, wiring to a new dimmer, drywall patching on removed fixtures and cleanup. Cathedral ceilings, plaster and retrofits cost more, and we'll give you a fixed written quote before any work starts.

Will you leave holes in my ceiling?

No. Drywall patching on every removed fixture is included in your quote. When old halogen or fluorescent cavities don't match the new potlight size, we patch the opening before we leave. Paint touch-up and texture matching have limits on older stucco, and we'll explain those during your free consultation so there aren't surprises.

Is there a warranty on the installation?

Yes. Every job comes with a written workmanship warranty covering our labour, and the fixtures carry their own manufacturer warranties. You'll get the paperwork at the final walkthrough after we've tested every switch and dimmer together. The same installer who quoted your job handles any warranty follow-up.

Can you install potlights in a cathedral or two-storey ceiling?

Yes. Cathedral and two-storey ceilings use gimbal or sloped-ceiling trims so light points straight down, and we bring taller ladders or scaffolding for access. Kitchen potlights on cathedral ceilings start at $750. Wiring through rafters takes more time, which is why these jobs are priced above a flat eight-foot ceiling.

Can you cut potlights into old plaster or stucco ceilings?

Yes. Century plaster in Rosedale, High Park and Leslieville homes needs slower cutting with dust-controlled hole saws, and we patch any cracks around the openings. Stucco ceilings from the 1960s to 1980s can contain asbestos, so we'll ask for a test before cutting. It's a small step that keeps your family safe.
