Lutron Caseta smart dimmers

Caseta replaces your wall dimmer with a smart one. Your existing dimmable LED potlights become app and voice controlled, with scenes and schedules. It’s the most reliable way to go smart and works on Lutron’s own Clear Connect signal.

Philips Hue colour and tunable fixtures

Should I pick Lutron Caseta or Philips Hue?

Lutron Caseta is best if you mainly want reliable dimming, scenes and remotes on regular LED potlights. Philips Hue is best if you want colour-changing or tunable-white fixtures controlled light by light. Many homes use both: Caseta for most rooms and Hue for the theatre or games room.

Do smart potlights work with Google Home and Alexa?

Yes. Both Lutron Caseta and Philips Hue connect to Google Home and Amazon Alexa. Once we've paired everything, you can say things like 'dim the kitchen to 30 percent' or 'movie time' to trigger a scene. We'll link your accounts during the handover.

What does tunable white mean?

Tunable-white fixtures can change colour temperature from warm 2200K, like candlelight, to cool 6500K, like daylight. You can set bright cool light for a winter morning and warm light for evenings. It's popular in kitchens, offices and bedrooms.

Do I need a strong Wi-Fi signal?

You'll need decent Wi-Fi where the hub or bridge sits, since that's how your phone talks to the system. The lights themselves talk to the hub over their own signal, Clear Connect for Lutron or Zigbee for Hue. If your Wi-Fi is weak in the basement, we'll flag it at the consultation.

Can I still use a regular wall switch?

Yes. Lutron Caseta dimmers are real wall switches that also work from the app. For Hue fixtures, we install a smart switch or a wall-mounted remote so guests and kids can still turn lights on the normal way. Nobody should need a phone to use the bathroom at night.

Can you add smart control to lights I already have?

Often, yes. If your existing LED potlights are dimmable, swapping the wall dimmer for a Lutron Caseta dimmer makes them smart without replacing the fixtures. For colour-changing or tunable light, you'll need new Hue-compatible fixtures.

Can smart lights run on a schedule?

Yes. We can set lights to turn on at sunset, dim at bedtime or switch off when you leave. Soffit lights can follow sunset times all year, which is handy as the days shorten in fall and winter. Schedules are set up during the handover and are easy to change in the app.
